Rosana Pinheiro Machado, a Brazilian anthropologist from Porto Alegre who teaches at Federal University of Santa Maria, will speak on “From Hope to Hate: The Rise of Conservative Subjectivity in Brazil.” She will explain Brazilian politics from “Lula-ism”’ to “Bolsonaro-ism,” marked by the rise and fall of economic growth as well as by democratic collapse, and discuss her research on youth and politics.
