Silvia Federici, professor emerita at Hofstra University and author of the classic Caliban and the Witch: Women, the Body, and Primitive Accumulation, will speak on “Globalization, the Destruction of the Commons and New Forms of Violence against Women” as part of the Global Policy Studies Speaker Series of the LBJ School of Public Affairs.

Federici will discuss the spread of new forms of witch-hunting and the worldwide escalation of violence against women. She will examine the impact of capitalist development on women’s lives and gender relations, the relation between the different forms of this violence (familial, extra-domestic, institutional), and the strategies that women are creating to resist it.
