Heather A. Williams, professor of Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, will deliver two talks in the Littlefield Lecture series in the Department of History at the University of Texas at Austin.
The first talk, “The Emotional Violence of Slavery,” will be on Tuesday, followed by “Murder on the Plantation” on Wednesday. Both start at 4 pm.
Williams is the author of Self-Taught: African American Education in Slavery and Freedom, Help Me to Find My People: The African American Search for Family Lost in Slavery, and American Slavery: A Very Short Introduction. Before her career as a historian, she worked as a lawyer in the U.S. Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division and as an Assistant Attorney General for the state of New York.
