Northwestern University history professor Daniel Immerwahr will speak about his new book, How to Hide an Empire: A History of the Greater United States. Immerwahr tells the story of U.S. colonialism in the Philippines and Puerto Rico, while after World War II, innovations in electronics, transportation, and culture allowed a new sort of influence that did not require the direct control of colonies.
The event is sponsored by the Institute for Historical Studies in the Department of History. More information online. RSVP to cmeador@austin.utexas.edu.
