Jason Mellard of the Center for Texas Music History at Texas State University will speak about his new book Progressive Country: How the 1970s Transformed the Texan in Popular Culture, which examines the turbulent, transformative 1970s in Austin through the lens of central Texas’s counterculture, from the cosmic cowboys of the Armadillo World Headquarter to Paredes and the performance-oriented folkloristics.
