Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor, assistant professor of African American Studies at Princeton University, will speak about her 2019 book Race for Profit: How Banks and the Real Estate Industry Undermined Black Homeownership. The federal government’s promotion of single-family homeownership in Black communities after the urban rebellions of the 1960s led to what Taylor calls “predatory inclusion,” as the government turned to market-based solutions in low-income housing programs.
Taylor also is the author of From #BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation and editor of How We Get Free: Black Feminism and the Combahee River Collective.
