A Mexican man who was targeted by the cartels is riding his bike across Texas to raise awareness of corruption and violence. His trip, which will begin in El Paso, ends in Austin with a press conference and celebration.
Carlos Gutierrez was the owner of a successful business in Chihuahua, Mexico, where cartels demanded payoffs and eventually cut off his feet and left him to die as an example to other business owners. He survived and fled with his family to the United Stated and requested political asylum.
The press conference will followed by light refreshments and live music by Kiko Villamizar. Following the reception, there will be a fundraising party at Takoba restaurant (1411 E. 7th S).
