“The People Speak” is based on Howard Zinn’s book A People’s History of the United States and the companion compilation of primary-source materials Voices of a People’s History of the United States. The film provides an account of U.S. history as told by the oppressed, the downtrodden, and the silenced.
The screening is hosted by the Beyond Capitalism Book Club, a reading group that brings together radical thinkers to read and discuss the ideas that can help create a more just and sustainable world. There will be a short discussion of the film and Zinn’s writings after the screening.
