The Center for the Study of Race and Democracy at the University of Texas’ LBJ School of Public Affairs is sponsoring a conference on “The Black Power Movement and American Political Culture 1966-2016: Reimagining Black Politics and American Democracy.
The conference, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Black Power Movement, will include sessions on: “An Agenda for Black Lives: From the Black Power Movement to Black Lives Matter”; “Black Power from Below and Above: The Policy Implications of Black Political Radicalism”; “Black Power in the Age of Obama, Ferguson, and Mass Incarceration”; and “Race, Class, and Political Coalitions: Imaging Black Power in the 21st Century.”
