David Ikard, professor of African American and Diaspora Studies at Vanderbilt University, will speak about “White Redemption in Film and Media.” He is the author of the 2017 book Lovable Racists, Magical Negroes, and White Messiahs, which analyzes narratives of white redemption in films, journalism, and political campaigns.
