In the second part on a series on alternative Austin histories, MonkeyWrench Books will feature Susana Almanza and Gilberto Rivera reflecting on their experiences with the Brown Berets and other Chican@ and anti-racist groups in Austin in the 1960s and ‘70s.

Almanza, a leader in the Chican@ movement in the ‘60s, is a founder of the environmental justice group PODER and a co-chair for the Southwest Network for Environmental and Economic Justice. Rivera, a neighborhood activist for decades, is the co-author of Austin’s Rosewood Neighborhood with Jane Rivera.
