Historian Tom Grace will speak on “Working Class Student Movements.” Grace—who has worked as a history professor, social worker, and union representative—is the author of Kent State: Death and Dissent in the Long Sixties. The book explains how the antiwar protests at Kent State—made infamous when the National Guard troops fired on unarmed protestors in 1970, killing four students and wounding nine others, including Grace—were grounded in a tradition of student political activism that extended back to Ohio’s labor battles of the 1950s.
The event is sponsored by United Students Against Sweatshops.
Location: Painter Hall, Room 4.41, University of Texas, Austin
