This summer, Texas A&M University outsourced its maintenance, landscaping, food service, and custodial departments. Touted as a cost-saving measure, this privatization eliminated about 1,600 university employee jobs and has resulted in higher food costs for students.

Will the University of Texas be next? It’s important to build a movement of organized university workers that can respond to any privatization plans.
