The “Second Saturday Screening” for November is “Young Lakota,” a documentary about three neighbors in Kyle, a small town in the heart of the Pine Ridge Reservation. Their political awakening begins when Cecelia Fire Thunder, the first female president of their tribe, defies a South Dakota law criminalizing abortion by threatening to build a women’s clinic on the sovereign territory of the reservation.
The short film “Alma de Mujer” directed by Andrea Zarate will be screened after “Young Lakota.”
Snacks will be provided and free childcare is available; email firstname.lastname@example.org by noon on November 7.
