Tyrone Hayes, a professor of Integrative Biology at University of California-Berkeley, will discuss the threats to ecosystems and human health from pesticides, more than a half-century after the publication of Rachel Carson’s groundbreaking book Silent Spring. Hayes is known for his conflict with Syngenta, the Swiss manufacturer of atrazine, after his research showed that the herbicide chemical is an endocrine disruptor.
The event is sponsored by the “Hot Science/Cool Talks” project of the Environmental Science Institute at the University of Texas. Tickets, which are required but free, are available online. A large crowd is expected, and people must check in by 6:40 pm.
