Social movements powered a wave of change in Latin America at the beginning of the 21st century, sweeping into power progressive governments after decades of dictatorship and austerity; occupying factories, housing, and land for people who lacked work and living space; and agitating, organizing and advocating on a broad spectrum of issues. Editors Clifton Ross and Marcy Rein will speak about their new book Until the Rulers Obey: Voices from Latin American Social Movements, which draws on interviews with more than 70 people in 15 countries who embody the upsurge of change in Latin America today.
