Drawing on findings from her book, Ghosts in the Schoolyard: Racism and School Closings on Chicago’s South Side, education sociologist Eve Ewing will discuss the story of Chicago’s 2013 mass public school closures and the role of race and history in the decision.

Ewing, assistant professor at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration, is also the author of the poetry collection 1919. She currently writes the “Champions” series for Marvel Comics and previously wrote the “Ironheart” series.
