In the first part on a series on alternative Austin histories, MonkeyWrench books will feature Alice Embree and Thorne Dreyer reflecting on their experiences with Students for a Democrat Society and involvement with anti-war, anti-racist, and feminist groups in Austin in the 1960s and ‘70s.

Embree, a leader in ‘60s New Left and women’s movements, is a founder of The Rag Blog and board member of New Journalism Project. Dreyer, a pioneer in the Sixties underground press movement and a leader in SDS and the New Left, is now editor of The Rag Blog, host of Rag Radio on KOOP-FM in Austin, and a director of the New Journalism Project.
