Raymondville, TX, once known as the onion capital of the world, is a rich agricultural area where Mexican-American farmworkers have long protested poor wages and working conditions. “Valley of Tears” explores the struggle of this community in the Rio Grande Valley to overcome entrenched inequalities. The documentary starts in 1979 when the majority of Mexican-Americans protested against the small group of Anglo farmers who ran the town, and the filmmakers followed the conflict for 20 years.
