UT Professor Eric Tang will speak on “Outliers: The Case of Austin’s Declining African American Population” as part of the Community Engagement Dialogue series of UT’s Division of Diversity and Community Engagement (DDCE). Tang was co-author of a study that found that Austin was the only major city in the United States to experience a double-digit rate of general population growth coincident and a decline in the African American population.
A former community organizer, Tang teaches in African and African Diaspora Studies and is a faculty fellow in DDCE and the Institute for Urban Policy Research and Analysis. He is completing a book about refugees and the U.S. urban crisis, and his current research focuses on the past and present of racial segregation in Austin.
Location: UT Community Engagement Center, 1009 E. 11th St., Austin
