Grassroots Leadership presents “Dancing Away Detention,” its annual fundraiser to support the Hutto Visitation Program and Family Detention Programs. The funds support volunteer orientations, train community volunteers, monitor the human rights conditions in the facility, and build advocates for closing the detention systems as a whole. Since 2010, the program has sent volunteers to the Hutto Detention center in Taylor to make connections with the immigrant women being detained there, playing a crucial role in breaking the isolation and serving as human rights observers within the facility.

Bidi Bidi Banda, the East Austin Selena Tribute band, will be the featured performer this year. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online.
