Poet, essayist, and playwright Cherríe Moraga will speak at the University of Texas at Austin in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the publication of the ground-breaking anthology that she co-edited, This Bridge Called My Back: Writings by Radical Women of Color.
Moraga is the author of A Xicana Codex of Changing Consciousness; Writings 2000-2010, and her latest play is New Fire: To Put Things Right Again, a collaboration with visual artist Celia Herrera Rodríguez, which premiered in San Francisco in 2012. She is completing a memoir titled The Native Country of My Heart.
Moraga is Artist-in-Residence at Stanford University in the Department of Theater and Performance Studies and the Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity Program. She is a founding member of La Red Xicana Indígena, an advocacy group working in education, culture, and international and local indigenous women’s rights.
