Esmeralda Villalta, director of CRIPDES San Vicente, will speak on the victories won by grassroots groups in El Salvador after the civil war. Villalta has been for 20 years a leader in this socialist organization working in the El Salvador countryside. Organizing in 300 rural communities, they successfully fended off an aggressive bid by a Canadian multinational corporation to reopen the El Dorado gold mine.
The event is sponsored by U.S. El Salvador Sister Cities. For more information, contact Jennifer Long, (512) 653-7824.
